UofSC VETERANS AND MILITARY AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES 5th ANNUAL VETERANS DAY 5K NOV.13
COLUMBIA, SC- The University of South Carolina Department of Veterans and Military Affairs will host the 5th annual USC Veterans Day 5K presented by Cornerstone Wealth Group on Sunday, Nov. 13. Over the last four years, the event has raised more than $52,000 to support the local Veteran and military population and has attracted 1,200 participants.
"The growth of this event over the last few years has been incredible. We're so thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, as we come together to honor veterans and warfighters in a fun, familyfriendly environment" says Jared Evans, executive director of Veterans and Military Affairs at UofSC and founding USC Veterans Day 5k committee member.
The race will start at 2 p.m. from Founders Square (located in front of Colonial Life Arena) and the race route will take participants through downtown Columbia and the UofSC campus. Food, beverages, live music, and entertainment will begin at noon and will conclude with an official afterparty following the race featuring The Stormin' Norman Band. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Big Red Barn Retreat, a local Veteran's organization whose mission is to offer integrated practices and programs that allow warriors to thrive. The practices are alternatives to traditional treatments and are available to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders at little to no cost to them.
"We are honored and humbled that the UofSC Department of Veterans and Military Affairs has selected the Big Red Barn Retreat as this year's charity for the annual 51(" says Sutton Shaw, executive director of the Big Red Barn Retreat. "As a sponsor of the event year's past, we've always loved the energy, passion, and fun of this 5K every year, and to know that monies raised this year will support our programs for veterans, makes it that much more special."
Run, ruck, or walk with friends, family, and dogs. Registration is $25 for adults (13 and up), $15 for Veterans/military and UofSC students (with valid student ID). $10 for children ages 5-12, and free for children under 5 years of age.
